forests

nutrients

are

found

in

the

soil.

But

in

rainforests

neutrients

are

found

on top

of

the

soil.

Rainforest

compost

comes

from

fungus

and

dead leaves.

are

cut down

the

ground

gets more

sunlight.

The

sun

heats

the

ground

and

the

fungi

die.

Then

the

rain

washes away

the

fungi

and

dead leaves.

So

the

nutrients

disappear.

mushrooms

and

dead leaves

are

washed away

The

ground

turns into

bare soil

made

of

red

clay.

Rainforests

cannot

grow

in

bare soil.
